The Hon. Mark McGowan MLA, Premier of Western Australia, Treasurer, Minister for Public Sector Management, Minister for Federal-State Relations

Event Overview

In the September state budget, WA boasted a surplus of $5.6 billion, making it the best performing economy in the country and the only state or territory to post a surplus in the financial year.
Despite this extremely strong position, the state is still grappling with border closures and the ongoing skills and workforce shortages, and the flow on effects on infrastructure projects, tourism and higher education.
Having enjoyed strong economic and health outcomes in 2021, what is next for the State in 2022? How will it make the most of its current position for long-term economic development? What are the priorities for the next 12 months?
Join CEDA members for an update on the State’s economic outlook and put your questions to Premier Mark McGowan.
Livestream start times:

Meet the keynote speaker

The Hon. Mark McGowan MLA
Premier of Western Australia, Treasurer, Minister for Public Sector Management, Minister for Federal-State Relations

His desire to make Western Australia a better place to live led to Mark's work in local and state government. He was Deputy Mayor of Rockingham before winning the State seat of Rockingham in December 1996. Mark was Parliamentary Secretary to Premier Geoff Gallop, and has held a range of portfolios in Government and in Opposition. He was elected Leader of the Opposition in 2012, and following the 2017 State election victory, which saw WA Labor win 41 Legislative Assembly seats, Mark became the 30th Premier of Western Australia. The McGowan Government was returned to office following the March 2021 election with a total of 53 seats and a swing of 17.7 per cent towards the Government.
