Event Overview

Over 360,000 Australians work in the aged care sector and this will need to grow to almost a million by 2050 to meet growing demand. Those providing care have long faced significant pressure to meet the needs and expectations of our community. We now ask what will be necessary to action the recommendations of the Royal Commission and bolster this large and critically important workforce to deliver quality aged care now and into the future.

The second session of CEDA’s Workforce series, experts and sector leaders will detail the implications of the Royal Commission’s recommendations and how to meet the immediate and long-term challenges in addressing Australia’s aged care workforce challenges.

Debby Blakey
Chief Executive Officer, HESTA

Under Debby’s leadership, HESTA pioneered investing with impact, which is delivering strong, long-term returns and positively contributing to global sustainable development goals.

Kasy Chambers
Executive Director, Anglicare Australia

Kasy is an accomplished CEO with extensive, national experience in government and the community sector. She brings widespread, hands-on experience in policy, advocacy, government relations, service provision, community development, corporate governance, and finance. Kasy has worked hands on in the fields of homelessness, disability, mental health, alcohol and other drugs in Britain and Australia; becoming a CEO and managing medium and large social service organisations in WA and the ACT.

Sean Rooney
Chief Executive Officer, Leading Age Services Australia

Sean is the CEO of Australia’s largest association representing providers of age services across residential care, home care, and retirement living/seniors housing. The aged care system in Australia has been under an unrelenting spotlight during COVID-19 and through a Royal Commission. Throughout this period Sean has played an active role in representing and leading the sector in order to realise a better aged care system.

Ian Thompson
Principal, Nous Group

Ian has 25 years’ experience in operational management of hospital, community health and mental health services at the state and federal levels. His expertise includes leadership of strategic and operational health service planning; design and implementation of major health infrastructure projects; and developing and implementing health service performance frameworks.

Public event advice – Coronavirus

At CEDA we are proud to regularly convene and engage speakers and audiences as an essential element of our efforts to broaden discussion and debate of the most important policy issues facing Australia. In doing so, our first priority is always the safety and wellbeing of our guests and staff.

CEDA is currently delivering a digital program of public events, podcasts and virtual Trustee roundtable discussions; hybrid events with both a livestream and audience in attendance; and face-face events, where there is member demand and they can be delivered in accordance with government health advice for a specific state.

For face-to-face gatherings, CEDA is working closely with our hosts and venues to ensure that social distancing can be maintained and facilities and equipment have been properly sanitised. Attendance numbers will strictly adhere to government guidelines for each state.In line with government advice we request people that are unwell with cough or fever or other respiratory symptoms do not attend CEDA events. We also ask that you follow government advice and maintain social distancing by refraining from shaking hands or exchanging physical greetings, and wherever possible, staying at least 1.5 metres away from others.

CEDA will continue to closely monitor government advice regarding public gatherings and will follow all relevant health advice from the Australian government in relation to COVID-19.
