CEDA – the Committee for Economic Development of Australia – is pleased to announce that Cassandra Winzar has started this week as Senior Economist, based in Perth.

CEDA CEO Melinda Cilento said Ms Winzar brings considerable social and economic policy experience to the role, as well as deep engagement with Western Australia’s business community during her time at the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA).

Prior to joining CEDA, Ms Winzar was Principal Economist at the WA Department of Communities (Housing Authority), where she focused on state economic conditions and housing related research, including running the state government’s Housing Industry Forecasting Group. She has also held roles as the WA-based Economist at the RBA, where she provided business liaison, and in Transfer Pricing at EY. Cassandra has a Bachelor of Economics (Honours) and Bachelor of Arts (Asian Studies) from the University of Western Australia.

Ms Winzar will hit the ground running, holding face-to-face meetings with West Australian CEDA members to hear more from them about business conditions and their policy priorities as the state and the nation emerge from the COVID-19 induced recession.

“Cassandra has a strong understanding of the West Australian economy and its contribution to Australia’s economic performance, including its central role in driving Australia’s exports,” Ms Cilento said.

“The insights and expertise she will bring to our team are a positive step towards better leveraging state insights and perspectives into critical national policy conversations.”

Ms Winzar is a member of the WA committee of the Women in Economics Network.
