The report outlines programs that have been underway in Australia to alleviate disadvantage and identifies reasons for their limited success.
It proposes a new way to address persistent disadvantage in Australia by using government held administrative data to identify predictors of risk, and to direct and target support to those individuals by using navigators. It also highlights the important role of a stronger safety net, getting serious about evidence and implementation, and a national champion to drive change.
This report is the first of three reports looking at disadvantage in Australia and we welcome further feedback from our members and interested stakeholders.
